[Bleach] Two Watchers (36, 6b/6)

Rating: PG-13, light R (nothing ribald except the use of the f-word)

Pairing: Ichimaru Gin/Kuchiki Byakuya, Abarai Renji/Kuchiki Byakuya

Notes: written at Gali's request because she likes Gin/Byakuya. Also, Renji's pun on his title - vice-captain - probably doesn't work in Japanese. Pretend he made a similar jest.
Summary: Renji knocks on Kuchiki-taichou's door these days.
Renji has started knocking on doors before going into Kuchiki-taichou's office, these days. It's easier than enduring the possible embarrassment that has started being a result of unannounced barging. It also means he doesn't run the risk of seeing Ichimaru-taichou fucking - using that word for Kuchiki-taichou seems wrong, crude and defiled, but maybe that's why it's so right - Kuchiki-taichou on the floor.
He always closes the door and gives them a few minutes to finish up, going back to his own office and looking over a few reports, trying not to think of the way Kuchiki-taichou watched him in those moments, of the way it would feel to have Byakuya pressing up against him in the same position. It's not his privilege. He's not worth Kuchiki Byakuya's time except as vice-captain (vice, definitely, given the way he's been thinking about his superior officer lately), and he accepts it. He does. He'll just improve enough to make Kuchiki-taichou look at him, acknowledge him. He doesn't want to sleep with him, since after all, that's what Ichimaru-taichou does, although how anyone could sleep with that creep next to them is beyond Renji.
So sometimes he'll come back to Kuchiki-taichou's office just in time to see Ichimaru-taichou leaving, and get insulted, something about All work and no play or maybe his loyalty, how he's sweet like Kira.
Kira's spineless and exploited, so Renji guesses maybe it's the truth. If he didn't care - if he didn't respect Kuchiki-taichou - he'd leave the door open and tell Kuchiki-taichou what needed to be said and ignore what was going on. But he can't. He can't, not with the way Kuchiki-taichou watches him like Ichimaru's body is there in place of Renji's own.

Consider it a sign that every time you write, you're improving. I can't look at the stuff I wrote freshman year of high school (heck, I can't even look at the piece I wrote this past November without going WHY IN HELL DID I THINK THIS WAS GOOD?).

I'm not sure why I do. He's not a very nice person, but I'm inordinately fond of him. ^_^;;
