valmoraI realized I really, really want to ship America/Japan, not that this should really surprise anyone. Except, um, can you say "f*'d up ship?" Oh yes. Except this piece is gen.
Japan POV, Nichibei kankei (Japanese-American relations), sesquidrabble-esque, PG and gen, not my characters no money made please don't sue.
America is loud and thoughtless, but not usually cruel. He is kind, because he hardly understands how else to be, but he won his freedom with blood and because of it never learned how to solve his problems with peace.
He is not so different from Japan, really, but Japan, having been humbled by him, has learned that peace is better than the alternative.
(he has almost stopped bleeding, now, but he will wear the scars forever, for as long as there is memory)
America has no conception of personal space and yet somehow always manages discomfort in the Tokyo rush hour. Japan, as in many things with America, does not understand; he almost does not wish to, but America is charming, and sometimes he says or does things that entertain. Sometimes he is handsome, in that strange way that white movie stars can be – for America is a movie star; he is the man all America wants to be and, in sum and in spirit, is.
