Title: Something Borrowed
Author: [livejournal.com profile] valmora
Rating: PG
Fandom: tGE AU
Characters: Louis Sedgwick/Eric Ashley-Pitt, Cecilia Ashley-Pitt
Genre: CRACKFIC.
Disclaimer: At this point, these people are practically original characters, but even so - Eric Ashley-Pitt and Louis Sedgwick are not mine. They belong to MGM/UA. Cecilia Ashley-Pitt and the AU's situation belong to both myself and [livejournal.com profile] figletofvenice.
Notes: I'm amazed that our modern!eric still has any desire to date, given the horrible experiences I have in reserve for his past. He's just so adorably naïve, I guess. ::glomps him::
Also, a virtual cookie if you can spot either of the two cheesy allusions in this fic.

Third of the "wedding rhyme" snippets.

Cecilia doesn't know what to think when Eric comes home from summer swim practice and is out of the shower before she even realized that he was in it, his hair disheveled and dripping on his jacket.

"Can I borrow the car?" he asks, leaning over her shoulder and peering at the game of computer Solitaire she pulled up to disguise what she was reading online.

"Why?"

"I need it," he says, too desperately nonchalant for her to buy it.

A sigh. "Eric..."

He doesn't even try to pretend he doesn't understand, protesting, "It's not like that this time! I swear it!"

She turns her head to look at him after putting a king card in one of the empty spaces on the Solitaire board. "You've said that before."

"Have I?" He looks so determinedly earnest that her heart goes out to him, because he always has that expression on his face whenever he's met someone new.

The problem is that the other guy is never someone new at all; he's just a repeat of the same problems, the same fixations - the same dangers.

"You have," she says, not bothering to mask her opinion. "Eric..." A pause. "Who is it?"

"Louis - you know, the one who brought me home the other day."

"The one who had to unpack the trunk of his car to find your swim bag? Contents of said trunk being several rolls of duct tape, several balls of string, a basketful of metal scraps, a trombone case, and a steamer trunk?"

Eric blushes and looks away. "Yes. Him." He coughs, embarrassedly.

She sighs and holds up her keychain, gripping it tightly as he tries to pull it from her hand.

"Promise me you won't do anything stupid," she says.

"Of course I won't," he scoffs, taking the keys from her as her hand relaxes, and he walks out the back door.

She hears the car start in the garage and wonders if she's made the right decision. Wonders, more importantly, if Eric has.

[sniffle] I wish I knew the cliches, but I got too lost in the story to look for them.
Also, I found this really cute Icon; from which I thought you might get a kick. http://www.livejournal.com/users/gabrielsangel/116187.html?nc=3 [go here and it's the second from the top] I giggled.

You're not looking for clichés - you're looking for ALLUSIONS. But good try anyway.
