[livejournal.com profile] lasarus -

Just got back ~30 min ago from Milwaukee Irish Fest, where Danú (and Cherish the Ladies, and Gaelic Storm, and Tommy Makem, and... and... ::squees::) played, and I got to see Danú live, and -

::fangirly squeeing over Tom::

They're even better live! And! And! Tom and Oisin! Their unmitigated talent! And Tom doing his energizer-bunny-walky thingie when he gets into the music, and Oisin looking like he's dipping his fiddle when he plays, and Eamon being all cute and calling Tom "Harry Potter" and yes! ::squiffles them::

::is newly-minted fangirl::

(they had a challenge that the best get-up-and-dance-'cause-the-music's-good-er of that show got to spend the evening "out on the town with Eamon". I thought about it, then decided that would be A)dishonest and B)slightly creepy, but I will next time they're in town. Or something. =) )

(And Tom is REALLY GOOD. Like, period, on absolute scale. =DDDDD Damn, if only he weren't married... but I'm reserved for you anyway. ^_~ )

So.....

Title: Of a Name
Rating: PG
Fandom: Celtic!bandfic RPS
Pairing: Oisín McAuley+Tom Doorley (of Danú), angstness
Disclaimer: This is the kind of story that will assure that not only will I go to Hell, but that I will, upon arrival, receive a visit from a large number of very pissed-off Irish musicians. ::blows kisses at Messrs. Doorley and McAuley:: I don't think it's actually like this, and neither should you. I wrote this for the amusement of myself and certain friends and made no profit from it.
Notes: I deliberately omitted the comma in the lj-cut text. It's up to you whether my meaning should have it or not. =) Also, I didn't do any research into character backgrounds for this one, because I've found that it kills the vibe (especially given that Tom was wearing a wedding ring) and suppresses fic.

Tom slurs Oisín's name into two syllables of a reel, and Oisín doesn't like it. Doesn't like that the years of working together have left the sound of his name imprinted on Tom's tongue, that he has become such a part of Tom's life that even his name has become a part of the music that is Tom.

He doesn't want to be that much a part of Tom's life because he doesn't want Tom to become that much of a part of his own. It would be too easy to let the sound of his own name on Tom's lips leave him shivering, to let the sight of Tom's longbroadstrong fingers make heat curl deep inside him. Too easy to want him as desperately as he ever wanted to play fiddle.

I squeed so much over Tom
Me too. I kept staring at him during the performance (though I'm not sure how much of that was me trying to figure out all the tricks he was doing on the whistle and how much of it was squeefulness). ^_^

he'd since married his girlfriend
What is it with our favorite musicians always getting married at inconvenient times re: fic-writing?

And he actually talked?
At the very end, when they were de-introducing the band - each member did the one on his/her left. Eamon was like, "I'm Eamon Doorley, and the guy on my left is - HARRY POTTER." (laughs from audience) "No, actually, that's Tom Doorley."

Which reel?
I was referring to the general sense of reel-ness, of reel-rhythm. Because I'm a cheat and Oisín's name is two syllables (with the stress on the first syllable, I think), which fits nicely with reel-ness. It was me trying to work Irish music into it. ^_^;;;

started with them *after* Tom's getting married
Am I plotbunnying you? ^_^
(also, Oisín started in 2001, and I've no clue when Tom got married, though marriage records are probably public record and if I were really desperate I could probably find some resource to let me check)

left to roast by a whole mob
me too. maybe we can get adjoining spits? cohabitation of spouses, you know.

it was all squeefulness,
Ah. I wonder if he feels threatened by all these young women staring intently at him throughout the shows who then proceed to go "SQUEE" after the show.

but never got further than "Frere Jacque"
it's okay; i cheated - saxophone is fingered the same way and i've been playing that for many years more

getting too close to the truth
Ah. I do see. I wonder what their wives think about that.

wasn't of his own volition
I don't know; he went first....

~facepalms~
It's okay. Really. ^_^

we can get back to serious, slashy discussion
(whisperwhisper) "so y'think snorgle wants to be banging zzzzzzzbin or kernelfrast?" / "kernelfrast. look! it presented it with steaming entrails!"

doesn't know what they write.
XD XD XD
Am most industriously not thinking of telling him at all.

they'll be paying us a visit
Ooh, I'll make sure we have enough cookies to feed everyone! Everyone is less likely to sue happier on a full stomach!

He's progressed
What did he do there?

meaningful eight-eyed looks across a crowded torture chamber
"Glee! They're so tentacly and adorable together. ::sighs:: " / "Now they're sharing Snorgle's meal of idolators' livers!"

Well, he never spoke
This describes almost all the members of Danú, actually, except for Muireann and Tom, and excluding the mandatory introductions.

Question: Are Tom and Eamon brothers? I wouldn't know, I don't listen to Celtic music, although I plan to.

Yes, they are. It's okay - Danú is kind of a lesser-known band, even in the Celtic music world.
