Notes: There's an in-joke in here, which will explain a little of the randomness, but not enough of it.
The cold of the street is settling in Sousuke's bones as they walk past pastry shops and little boutiques, so he is not unappreciative when Ichimaru shoves him into a chair at one of the outdoor tables at a cafe, beneath an awning so the rain will not reach them.
"Let's have some coffee," Gin insists, smile in place as ever, the hand on Sousuke's forearm cold. "Before we go back."
Sousuke looks at him, at the blanched-blue tint to Ichimaru's skin, and murmurs, "If you wish." To the waiter, he says, "Deux cafés. Et beaucoup de sucre pour cet homme-là." He indicates Gin with a faintly amused smile, but the waiter looks more frightened than anything else, which is truly a pity.
He turns back to Ichimaru to find that Gin is holding Shinsou to the light, testing the edge on the cloth napkins and making origami out of the result. There are already a number of cloth shinigami having sex in various interesting positions on the table, and Sousuke has no doubt that one of those figures has a five drawn on his back, while another has three horizontal lines. Really, Ichimaru is so predictable.
The coffee arrives, carried by a shaking waiter, and Sousuke thanks him politely before sliding Gin's cup over to him and taking the first sip of his own.
It is black, heavy with spices, and tastes of sin, bitter and sweet. He rolls it around in his mouth, feeling it cover the aftertaste of blood that always lingers after an hour passed in bed with Gin, and thinks on the last time he had coffee as striking as this, in Bogotá, many years ago, Gin still his vice-captain and spilled beside him in bed after battling uncounted numbers of worthless Hollows. Sousuke drank coffee and blood from his lips that night, and in the morning, Gin could not move without tearing open his wounds again.
He looks up at Gin over the rim of the cup and watches Ichimaru stir sugar into his, spoon a flicker of silver against his skin before he brings it to his lips and drinks.
Their eyes meet, then, and Sousuke puts the cup, still steaming, down on the table, dropping a few euros as well to cover the cost and the tip.
"Let's go," he says, seizing the cup from Ichimaru and setting it on the table, ignoring Gin's noise of surprise at the loss of the warmth, standing and pulling Gin to his feet as well. "There are better ways to get out of the cold than coffee."
Aizen doesn't say anything particularly horrible to the waiter: "Two coffees. And a lot of sugar for the man over there [Gin]."
