[Bleach] On the Road Home (8/13, AU)
Jun. 22nd, 2006 11:20 amTitle: On the Road Home
Rating: PG
Fandom: Bleach AU
Pairing: Kyouraku Shunsui/Ukitake Jyuushirou
Disclaimer: Shunsui and Ukitake = KT's.
Notes: The Scottish Play is Macbeth, but it's considered bad luck to say the name in a theatre. Jyuushirou, being a dork, never says the name.
Summary: A walk in the snow before dinner. AU.
"D'you want to come back to my place?" Shunsui asks, hands tucked into his sleeves against the winter air, head turned towards Jyuushirou not only to look at him but also to avoid the snow blowing into their faces. "I have hot chocolate, if you want it."
Jyuushirou looks at him out of the corner of his eye, at the slow curve of Shunsui's smile, and shakes his head. "Gotta get home. Munchkins're waiting for dinner, and everything."
"You can tell them to eat without you, y'know." It's so easy for Shunsui to say it, like he doesn't get that Jyuushirou is a kid raising seven other kids because some sixty-year-old man didn't know how to drive.
Jyuushirou shakes his head more forcefully, hunches over a bit more into the wind, clenching his fists in the pockets of his coat. He gave his gloves to his sister because she lost hers and she needs them more. "No, Shunsui."
"Can I come over, then? Spend the night?"
And here's where he has to ask himself what, or if, he wants. He finds he doesn't, not the way Shunsui is implying, and licks his lips, immediately regretting it because the wash of cold sends chills rushing through him.
"No, Shunsui. I've got seven siblings and every single one of them pays attention to what I do - I can't just have you over for the night. They know, okay? They don't believe we're just friends - they won't buy it, not after you kissed me behind the light booth in the middle of the Scottish Play and they all saw."
Shunsui looks up at the sky, grinning, snowflakes caught bright in his eyelashes. "Was a good kiss, though. 'specially with the munchkins cheering you on."
"Yes, well," he says, looking back at the concrete of the sidewalk, wanting to push his hair out of his eyes but too cold to want to take his hand out of his pocket. His knees ache from the chill and his hoodie is starting to get soggy.
"Jyuu," Shunsui says, and when Jyuushirou looks over, he's kicking a rock through the dusting of snow on the ground. "When I asked - about staying, you know? I didn't mean sex, not - it's not important. I mean, if you want, I'll do it, but I didn't think you would. I can sleep on the couch; your couch is a lot more comfortable than my bed, anyway." He stops, standing at the bottom of the steps of his house.
"Go home, Shunsui," Jyuushirou says. "We're fine, and my aunt's staying with us this night at least before she finds her next boyfriend. We'll be okay." They smile at each other, and Jyuushirou thinks about kissing him but doesn't.
"I'll see you tomorrow," Shunsui says to Jyuushirou's retreating, hunched back, and Jyuushirou knows he's waving goodbye without even looking.

DENIED.
But not in a mean way. ^-^

Date: 2006-06-23 04:02 am (UTC)Definitely. I really, really agree. Also, I think because Byakuya and Renji are so different, they find it harder to talk about the things they need to, whereas Shunsui and Jyuushirou are similar enough that the important things already match up, so what's left is easy to discuss (except, in the dysfunctional version, that one super-important thing that they can't talk about because it'll tear them apart).
