Day-YAM, but I am on the hetball this month. It's like the Apocalypse is nearing.
Title: Gypsies and Yellow Jazz
Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Bleach, slightly AU
Pairing: Ichimaru Gin/Matsumoto Rangiku, Aizen Sousuke+Ichimaru Gin
Disclaimer: These characters do not belong to me; they are owned by Kubo Tite and whomever he's licensed Bleach to. The title is an allusion to a scene from F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby," which also does not belong to me. Actually, not going to lie; the whole scene is based on The Great Gatsby.
Notes: Inspired by this image at this site. Also, her dress reminded me of Prohibition-era USA, so that's where this takes place.
They come to the party long after five o'clock, long after most of the attendees have started drinking, and the flower in her hair is wine-red enough to be intoxication for the both of them - well, at least for her. Gin is a man, and flowers don't charm him the way they do women, but he's certainly charmed by the cut of her dress, the skin that it shows as it dips down, down along her spine. He finds her beautiful tonight, and he will think her beautiful tomorrow when she is back in her severe dresses that utterly fail to hide the loveliness of her.
It is Aizen Sousuke's party, the millionaire with the money ill-gotten (why else would there be liquor here?), a live band playing swing in one room, a dance floor set up with couples exerting themselves on it, skirts flying and bodies echoing one another in the pursuit of beauty in movement. Gin finds Aizen standing to the side of the crowd, his wire-rimmed glasses not signature but indicative, the way he greets all the women with a kiss on the cheek and the men with a handshake telling of his identity. Gin thanks the man for the party, shakes his hand, does not like the way Aizen looks at him -
Well, there are other sins that happen here in New York that would outrage the seemly, and Gin smiles back at Aizen, expression indicating nothing, and when he can extricate his hand from Aizen's grip he does, returning to Rangiku, touching her arm to gain her attention.
She is looking at Aizen, saying, "He's so strange," her expression one of distress, discomfort.
"Of course he is. He deals in liquor and gets away with it," Gin responds, kissing her temple, setting fingers under her chin and kissing her full on the mouth in public, feeling the blush spread across her cheeks as heat.
"Might I have this dance?" he asks, afterwards, and she looks up at him with her mouth open a little, still struck from the kiss, and puts her arms around his shoulders, smiling and nodding finally. "Of course," she answers, regaining a little of her composure, beginning to move with him. "Who am I to deny a gentleman?"
"I wouldn't say that, were I you," he says, smelling the flower in her hair, her perfume, beneath that her skin, bright-warm-sweet like her personality. "I wouldn't call myself very gentle at all."
"But you're gentle tonight, with me," she says, and since she is right about that, he decides not to protest or to show her otherwise. She is too beautiful, and he loves her too much, to correct the assumption.

Date: 2006-10-17 08:19 pm (UTC)(Also, we had a conversation today in my economics class about "favorite movies" and the resident gamer in the class (who happens to be black and doesn't speak in ebonics) was like SPIDER-MAN ONE. SPIDER-MAN TWO. EX-MEN THREE. And I was sitting there going, WHY DOES THIS MAN NOT WATCH ANIME? And then I got into a debate with a friend over whether the characters in Advent Children were based on Bleach or whether Bleach was based on Advent Children. It got a little heated. XD )
