[Yukan Club] (Miroku+Seishiro snippet)

Becky, I should stop listening to my own plotbunnies.
Yukan Club snippetlike thing. Miroku+Seishiro, no real spoilers. 288 words. Sorta kinda takes place in the perhaps-the-scorned-heirs-are-trying-to-kill-Bido thought scene in Episode 4.Unbeta'd Edited by the ever-wonderful
becroberts. Written in about ten minutes and therefore really terrible. Further edits are beloved.
Originally it was probably an affectation that Seishiro picked up to make himself look older. Being young and brilliant meant he had to convince people he had thought about things, and just coming up with answers isn't reassuring to old geezers. So. The thinking-pose, cupping his chin, pacing, tapping his lips. A set of movements meant to make him look reputable and thoughtful and responsible.
Unfortunately, while it does make Seishiro look mature, it makes Miroku's mental age go to about - well - he can't say "five" because five-year-olds wouldn't think what he does, seeing that. They'd think, "He's thinking" and leave it at that. Maybe they'd wonder what Seishiro's thinking about. Miroku thinks, "He's thinking," and looks through the frame of his fingers at his lips, imagines what it would feel like to touch those lips himself.
The funny thing is, he's not even looking. He doesn't even need to look anymore to know what Seishiro looks like. It's really embarrassing, the kind of thing that would probably make all his fangirls have spontaneous fits of glee.
So. Not looking, not thinking about that mouth, about the way Seishiro taps his finger just under his lips in thought, because even trying to think about it banishes Miroku's thoughts entirely. He'd like to have his mind intact. Needs it to focus on the case at hand, because life would be less fun if Bido were dead. Seishiro is, unfortunately, not the case currently under investigation, though it would be a lot easier if he were. Would mean Miroku could imagine that mouth under his own fingers or the severity of those lips easing as Miroku kissed him, without feeling embarrassed about it.

A set of movements meant to make him look reputable and thoughtful and responsible.
Oh, I like this! Everyone knows Seishiro is responsible - he even orders the adults around - but if he spoke roughly and rashly, made unnecessary movements or acted in any way...well...like Miroku, really, they'd think otherwise. So I think it's a very plausible explanation for Seishiro's mannerisms.
It's really embarrassing, the kind of thing that would probably make all his fangirls have spontaneous fits of glee.
I suspect this would happen in real life too. I don't think I've seen any Yoko/Jin shippers yet, but they do look quite cute when they hug... *forces mind out of gutter* But yes, I'm sure Miroku's fangirls would all go "Kyaaa!" and start drawing doujinshi. The rest of the club members would probably help them market it.
banishes Miroku's thoughts entirely.
I'd suggest 'Miroku's own thoughts entirely' for emphasis.
because life would be less fun if Bido were dead
And less beautiful, naturally! *giggles*
Would mean Miroku could imagine that mouth on his own fingers, imagine the taste of him, without feeling embarrassed about it.
You really need to see that last episode... Not that this happens, but there is such a wonderful scene, with Seishiro getting all worked up over Miroku's condition (no, I do not mean to imply that he has gotten himself knocked up), a gorgeous speech and yes, some touching.
Anyway...the only senses you mention in this are sight and touch, but suddenly you have taste in the last line coming right after touch, and it seems just a little off to me. Like Miroku is going to imagine the taste using his fingers, if that makes any sense.
But what I do like is that Miroku is very much a man of action, so it's logical for him to be imagining physical things - touches - rather than, say, thinking of confessing to Seishiro or anything like that.
To sum up: I like it! If I ask for more, will I get a better reception than Oliver Twist did?
I'd like to have a go at some myself one day, but I suspect I'd end up writing about the actors rather than the characters so that's probably not a good idea!

Date: 2008-01-08 04:31 am (UTC)Plotbunnies are vicious things with sharp, pointy teeth!
Funnily enough, I got a "MP + Holy Grail" rabbit shirt for Xmas. How timely.
(front: [small picture of cute fuzzy rabbit] It's just an ordinary rabbit, isn't it?
back: [picture of rabbit covered in blood with nasty big pointy teeth] WE'LL NOT RISK ANOTHER ASSAULT. THAT RABBIT'S DYNAMITE! )
So I think it's a very plausible explanation for Seishiro's mannerisms.
Especially given how AWWW MADE OF CUTE his chibi!self was in ep. 4. I just wanted a plushie of chibi!Seishiro. It wouldn't even have to be a "little" plushie because he was chibi-sized anyway...
*forces mind out of gutter*
The gutter is fun. Enjoy it! Revel in it! Write that ficlet!
(no, I do not mean to imply that he has gotten himself knocked up)
See, I hear "condition" and I think "medical condition" like he was injured or ill. I don't think "pregnant". Is this a British thing or just an archaic euphemism? (sorry, me being linguistic nerd)
it seems just a little off to me
Yes, now that you've mentioned it you're right. It was bothering my subconscious too but I didn't know why.
will I get a better reception than Oliver Twist did?
Of course you will get a better reception! I may write something more, once I've seen more of the show, but of course and always no promises.
end up writing about the actors
If you mix the actors and the characters a little, I'm sure it wouldn't be entirely a sin. =D
I shall watch more Yukan Club tonight!

I just wanted a plushie of chibi!Seishiro
I still hate kids but my goodness, they were so cute as kids, weren't they? I loved little Noriko. She was perfect!
The gutter is fun. Enjoy it! Revel in it! Write that ficlet!
Hah, not a chance. I do not write fiction involving members of Kanjani8 (except when they don't appear) as they are all complete lunatics. I am completely serious about this. Yokoyama Yuu astounds me with his ability to completely suppress his natural brash, chatty insanity in order to play the much calmer Seishiro.
See, I hear "condition" and I think "medical condition" like he was injured or ill. I don't think "pregnant". Is this a British thing or just an archaic euphemism?
Good question. I suppose I could've said he's got a bun in the oven, he's a member of the pudding club or he's in the family way, but as I cannot quite picture Miroku as a casualty of fandom m-preg... I honestly don't know where that particular implication of "condition" comes from. I only hear it in Britain, at any rate. I wonder if it has something to do with avoiding pregnancy being described as an illness?
I may write something more, once I've seen more of the show, but of course and always no promises.
Where are you up to, anyway? Because there's lovely fodder for fics...
If you mix the actors and the characters a little, I'm sure it wouldn't be entirely a sin. =D
Not a sin, perhaps, but it would completely reverse Seishiro's personality! (Not Miroku's, though, because Jin is basically playing himself, albeit a version with considerably better electronics skills.)
I shall watch more Yukan Club tonight!
Indeed you must! ^_^

Date: 2008-01-08 06:25 pm (UTC)Ditto. And I agree, little Noriko was very cute as well.
ability to completely suppress his natural brash, chatty insanity
Well, that's why they call it acting. In what way are they all insane? (also, how do you know he's naturally brash and chatty and insane? maybe he's more like himself and the insanity is the act)
member of the pudding club
Wow, um. That one I have never heard ever. I mean, "condition" I've heard on occasion but, um...
Miroku as a casualty of fandom m-preg.
They're all very asexual. I mean, there's lots of romantic stuff in the show, but it's not really very sexual. And I mean unless you wanted him to be pregnant by aliens (actually, given the 5th episode, this one could be done) who performed some very strange surgery on him, I don't really see that one happening.
avoiding pregnancy being described as an illness?
Possibly. I mean, judging by the symptoms - there I go, describing it like an illness again - it's not exactly the most comfortable process. I think finding euphemisms for otherwise unpleasant parts of pregnancy is just avoiding the truth, personally. (oh, if only the uterine replicator really existed)
Where are you up to, anyway?
I finished episode 6 last night (the one with Noriko's father's paintings getting stolen and then being given back). Actually, watching it I was really struck by Seishiro's reactions to Noriko's interest in Yuya. Like, in previous episodes they've called it a "big brother" thing, but for real? I am totally not seeing it that way. Like, I sat there watching him get all uncomfortable when she was around Yuya and was busy cackling, going, "YOU'RE JEALOUS, HA HA HA." Which makes me very glad my snippet didn't require any feelings on Seishiro's part. I mean, I wish I didn't see Seishiro+Noriko, because um so obvious, but she's also exactly the kind of woman he was trying to turn Yuri into when they were engaged. So. (of course, that wasn't necessarily because he personally wanted her to be that way, but because his image needed her to be that way, so I'm not sure). I don't know. What do you think of this?
completely reverse Seishiro's personality!
Well, you could write him being mostly serious but with moments where his secret total insanity shows through.
with considerably better electronics skills.)
Is he one of the "oh look! my desktop computer came with a coffee cup!" types or something?

Date: 2008-01-08 07:07 pm (UTC)I know this mostly from concerts, TV shows, interviews, photoshoots and the occasional radio program. I direct you to my friend Sarah's Kanjani8 pimp post for an overview of the band. Yoko, along with Hina (Murakami Shingo), is an MC for the group and does a lot of the talking. An awful lot of the talking. If they need a member to host something, he's always up there. Oh, and go here as well.
Wow, um. That one I have never heard ever.
That one really is archaic. Don't know the origin, but it amuses women over fifty when I am the only person younger than them who actually understands the reference.
They're all very asexual. I mean, there's lots of romantic stuff in the show, but it's not really very sexual.
Thank goodness. You probably weren't watching all the promo clips and interviews and things, but I was, and do you know how many little kids loved the series and kept going up to the actors in restaurants? (And they mostly loved Miroku. Aww...)
oh, if only the uterine replicator really existed
I'm sure there are mothers all over the world thinking this.
What do you think of this?
I am actually quite a romantic at heart, so my original thoughts on seeing first Noriko's jealousy and then Seishiro's were that yes, it was romantic feeling between them. (And I find them very sweet, which helps.) But because they also wanted each other's happiness so badly and held each other up as ideals...I don't know, part of me also thinks that maybe they're just very good friends who care very much about each other and want to protect each other.
Well, you could write him being mostly serious but with moments where his secret total insanity shows through.
About the closest they got to that in the series was whenever he cross-dressed! Or one of the end clips, when he attacks Miroku's collarbone. (It's Jin's very well-known weak point; Yoko kindly passed this information onto the host of a show Jin was being interviewed on, and the host promptly attacked him. Three times. His words were something along the lines of "If you touch his collarbone, you'll see something interesting".)
Is he one of the "oh look! my desktop computer came with a coffee cup!" types or something?
I don't think he's quite that bad, but he's a bit accident prone. The odds are fairly good that if he fiddles with something he will break it, rather than fix it!

Date: 2008-01-08 11:52 pm (UTC)Do these guys [the members of the band] have a LIFE? Like, other than the band. Holy cow. So much information about them. Though I suppose that's no different from most famous musicians in the US or anywhere else, for that matter - it's just the type of music that I'm into tends to be less idol-rific.
Holy cow. Unfortunately I can't see examples of the crazy because, um, my not-speaky of Japanese is such that the interviews etc are incomprehensible.
it amuses women over fifty
Don't you love when that happens?
And they mostly loved Miroku.
He's very empathizable, I agree with that. Although, if the show had been sexualized, it wouldn't be the same show nor have the same appeal to children.
I'm sure there are mothers all over the world thinking this.
Oh yes. And non-mothers, too, obviously.
was whenever he cross-dressed
Well, you could remedy the lack of insanity in your fics. =D
you'll see something interesting"
Two questions: what kind of interesting, and how did he (Yoko) learn this?
he will break it, rather than fix it!
Oh! Newt Pulsifer! (You've read Good Omens, yes? I forget -)

Date: 2008-01-09 07:35 pm (UTC)Not really. Well, sort of. Pretty much everyone under contract to Johnny & Associates (just look up Johnny's Entertainment for an explanation) spends their time being full-time idols. The debuted ones, anyway. I'm not normally into the whole idol thing myself, but...well, it's a long story and it ends with me being horribly, horribly obsessed. It has, however, injected an awful lot of fun and joyful chaos into my life.
Although, if the show had been sexualized, it wouldn't be the same show nor have the same appeal to children.
Exactly. Can you imagine what would have happened if Bido had actually slept with all those women?
Two questions: what kind of interesting, and how did he (Yoko) learn this?
Here, have a YouTube link. What they do in this part of the show is they read out messages from friends/colleagues of the person being interviewed, and in this case they asked Yoko 'cause of Yukan Club. (Jin's response is that it's a weakness of his, incidentally.) How Yoko came by this knowledge, I do not know, but they've known each other for years and it's been mentioned before. If you have a look at the end of episode 5 where they are giving away copies of the manga, you'll see Yoko going after Jin's collarbone himself.
Oh! Newt Pulsifer! (You've read Good Omens, yes? I forget -)
I've read it, yep, though I never remember any of it to quote!

Date: 2008-01-10 05:44 pm (UTC)I see. Sense is made. Is it a bit like the A-list famous-for-being-famous American stars kind of thing?
if Bido had actually slept with all those women
Probably he'd have had to marry one of them. Although, I mean, it's not even consistent with his character to be sexually attracted to someone else. He's so overwhelmingly narcissistic that for him to show anything other than friendly interest in anyone else is pretty well OOC. Even the girls - he likes them because they recognize how beautiful he is, I think, and because he likes the attention, not for any other reason.
Here, have a YouTube link
Mmm, tastes like google pie. Is he just really ticklish there or something? (I can't understand anything they're saying)
How Yoko came by this knowledge
Seeing the footage, I think it looks like it could easily have been an accident - I'll casually mention that I'm very very ticklish and then it gets used against me. Or in aikido people will try to stab me and I'll collapse in tickled giggles of embarrassment.
look at the end of episode 5
Oh yes! I missed that the first time; I think I blinked. Or I thought he pushed him or something? Makes more sense now.
though I never remember any of it to quote!
It's actually quite rare that I get the chance to, sadly. =(

Date: 2008-01-11 01:06 am (UTC)Kind of, except these guys are very hardworking. It's sort of expected that everyone be able to do most of the following: singing, dancing, acrobatics, hosting radio shows, hosting TV shows, acting (dramas, stage, movies). As an added bonus, you may get: sports, rap, beatboxing, playing instruments, painting, comedy routines and anything else that women between the ages of about 6 and 60 might find appealing. (There are male fans too, but their number is much, much smaller!)
He's so overwhelmingly narcissistic that for him to show anything other than friendly interest in anyone else is pretty well OOC.
True. He is blatantly in love with himself - I wonder if he's ever considered having himself cloned? Seishiro and Miroku between them can probably design and build the necessary technology...
Is he just really ticklish there or something?
There is a subbed version, but the subbing group do not like their work being put up on streaming sites or I'd have linked you to one. Jin says that he really hates being touched there, that it's a weak point and he doesn't know why. If I recall correctly, there's a clip from a few years back when he was hogging the camera and one of the other guys in the group touched his collarbone...and he screamed like a little girl. (Jin used to have this very shrill, high-pitched scream, but I don't know if he can do it anymore.) They go after it at concerts, too.
I'll casually mention that I'm very very ticklish and then it gets used against me.
*stores information for future use* I, too, am very ticklish, which is most unfortunate as I seem to get frisked at airports a lot these days and I stand there giggling helplessly while some stern-faced woman pats me down with suspicion in her eyes. It's a miracle I haven't been detained as a terrorist yet.
I apologise for not having gotten to your second chapter yet - it's been a busy couple of nights for me! I'll read and review this weekend, though.

anything else that women between the ages of about 6 and 60 might find appealing
Ahaha! I had to explain "fanservice" to my father the other day, when a guy in a movie took off his shirt for no discernible reason. He was, I think, amused and a little disturbed.
Seishiro and Miroku between them can probably design and build
I'm having flashbacks to Rocky Horror, with Seishiro and Miroku as Magenta and Riff Raff (not necessarily in that order, um). Save me, please.
that it's a weak point
I scream when I'm tickled very unexpectedly, so it sounds like he's just really ticklish there.
*stores information for future use*
There is a nice side effect to learning aikido, though - I can defend myself against reaching tickly hands (aikido involves a whole set of wrist-twisting techniques).
I stand there giggling helplessly
That happened to me once. I told her beforehand that I was very ticklish so if I started giggling that was all it was.
it's been a busy couple of nights for me!
I expected that people's free-time-to-edit time would go way down, and I'm not in any hurry. Thank you for continuing, though. =D
