[Death Note] (Light/L, PG-13)

untitled Death Note snippet, 177 words, Light/L, PG-13 if you aren't paying attention (light R if you are), takes place not long after ch58/ep25. Religious overtones, so probably animeverse.

Characters, situations, etc, not mine and I make no money.

Written in about ten minutes, unbeta'd; edits are beloved and thankfully contemplated.

He – wanted. Like sin, like terror, to want what was not his to hold, and it was in the palm of his hand. To take it, to have it given him. And he lay down, down again, into the bed that was another battleground and a joyous one and a terrible one, and lay with his dearest beloved rival – not enemy, surely? Surely he could have been redeemed, had he been another – and that was only his body, not his soul. God – himself – he is God, there is no higher power than himself, than the notebook in his hands and he knows his yielding was not imperfection not flesh-over-mind.

He lies now.

The bed is too soft, too hard by turns; his head aches but his mind has never been so clear. He can see the future laid out before him, spare and strange and terrifying without the threat of L against him, L who is dead in the morgue and lay in his arms once-twice-thrice while both their hearts beat madly.

He rises, hungry.
