Spain is wealthy, but somehow poor - all things cost more, and while he himself has the silver to pay, not all of his people do.
How is it that so soon after he has become flush with silver he's left poorer than ever?
He expects to come happily home from the New World, glad to be arrived buoyed by victory over the heathens, only to find that South Italy is as prickly as ever, kicking Spain's shins the moment he walks through the door.
Spain was expecting it, and had left on the shin plates of his armor, but that hardly helps.
Then his house steward came to him, asking for more money, that their expenses from the conflicts with the rest of Europe had become too much for their usual budget, did he have silver or better yet gold to help them last through the season...?
He did, but if he had not it would have made no difference; the Throne looked after him and saw his expenses paid. What was more worrisome was that even he, with his famed wealth taken from across the sea, struggled to keep house. If he could not, how would suffer his people?
